Winter'Rest Farm is a small, seasonal and sustainable farm owned by Jeff and Leigh Shearin, located in rural Poland, NY.
We are new farmers; transplanted from a suburban existence in search of a cleaner, more independent lifestyle. Much of what we do is trial and error- but we aren't too hard on ourselves. The land and the seasons teach us what we need to know. Some of our friends are small farmers as well and help us find the answers we need. We also depend heavily on our friend Walt, who is a formally educated Farmer, working in the Dairy segment of the industry. The path to the knowledge isn't really what is important, though. It's the knowledge itself- available to everyone! Winter'Rest Farm is 25 acres of old farmland- part of what was a Dairy farm. There is an old apple orchard, a meandering creek and is studded with patches of wild blackberry. |
The Farm has a small pond that we have restored and stocked with Black Bass and Channel Catfish. Our Winter'Rest Farm SweetBees produce flavorful raw honey and quality beeswax. We specialize in asparagus, rhubarb, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and honeyberries. Each year brings more growth. Although we are not certified Organic, our farming practices are as Earth-friendly and environmentally sustainable as we can make them. Soon we hope to offer these products to local restaurants who support the Farm-to-fork movement, as well as bring our goods to area Farmer's Markets.
